Almost everyone knows that there are multiple versions of all colors -- Blue, or Green, or Red or Yellow! That’s why your design team will be looking at an entire range of the specific major theme color you like, and that you want incorporated into your Interior environment design. Within that category of many, many Blues or Yellows will be the consideration of how your chosen theme color will interpret itself on specific surfaces, a variety of materials, essential equipment and finishes – and Light. All color has very specific reactions to and relationships with Lighting!
In one setting color will react in a certain way to the available Light; yet, that same color and color value can change significantly in a different Light source. Smooth, glossy surfaces are particularly reflective of Light, and thus have the power to change the “value” of a chosen color. Many textures actually absorb Light and can change your expectations concerning how you wanted a color to appear! As you prepare to make important choices in all your Interior design project’s aspects, it can help your Interior design team to have you provide examples of specific versions of the colors you like in a specific color category. Photographs or even specific items in your preferred colors would be extremely helpful. Depending on the use of your Interior environment – specialized commercial (such as medical and dental, public use such as libraries or event facilities or residential space) your Interior Design team may want to help you make the decisions that concern appropriate Lighting before making final decisions on color. Color and Light must be compatible to deliver the Vision you have in mind, so it is important to defer to your expert Interior design team concerning such inter-relationships. It’s unfortunate with some do-it-yourself decisions when a prized and favorite “red” winds up looking “orange” because the choice of lighting radically changed the color “value.” It is smart – when doing your own interior project – to get advice first from one of the many kinds of available experts on the interactions of Color and Light. We all have favorite colors that influence our choices in everything – clothing, accessories, vehicles and house paint! When you go to purchase a car or truck, you see the color where it will usually be -- outside in natural light – very different from taking that same favorite color value to an interior setting with artificial light! Your Interior design team helps you strive for balance, compatibility and a finished Interior with the color values as you envision them! |
